Benue State Government Distributes Relief Materials tTo Flood Victims

The Benue State Government, on Saturday, distributed relief materials to victims of the 2024 flood in Makurdi, the state capital.

According to the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), James Iorpuu, the palliatives, including 25kg bags of rice and 50kg bags of maize, were distributed to alleviate hunger among the affected residents.

The initiative was part of the state government’s efforts to assist victims before receiving support from the Federal Government through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). Iorpuu noted that SEMA had conducted a detailed house-to-house assessment of the damages and forwarded a comprehensive report to NEMA.

“We are distributing palliatives to flood victims in areas like Logo II, Gyado Villa, Modern Market, Wadata, and Central High Level,” he stated. He also emphasized the state government’s commitment to fumigating affected homes to prevent health risks.

Thaddeus Ahule, Chairman of the Landlords’ Association in Logo II, expressed gratitude to the government for its prompt response to the plight of the victims.

The relief distribution demonstrates the Benue State Government’s dedication to supporting flood-affected residents while awaiting federal intervention.
