Ondo Poll: Labour Party Candidate Blames Obi, NLC For Election Defeat

The Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Ayodele Olorunfemi, has accused former Anambra State governor Peter Obi and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) of undermining his chances in Saturday’s election.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious, winning all 18 local government areas with 366,781 votes. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Agboola Ajayi, followed with 117,845 votes. Despite securing his place on the ballot through a Court of Appeal ruling days before the election, Olorunfemi said the damage to his campaign was already done.

He claimed interference by Obi and the NLC, citing their backing of Olusola Ebiseni, whom he described as a divisive figure. Olorunfemi alleged that Ebiseni and the NLC had gone so far as to forge a withdrawal letter in his name. “They scuttled my chances by insisting on Ebiseni, even writing to the court pretending I had withdrawn from the race,” he said.

The LP candidate vowed to seek justice, planning to petition the police to investigate the alleged forgery.

Meanwhile, the acting Chairman of the NLC Political Commission, Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, dismissed Olorunfemi’s claims, labeling him a “funny character” who had previously attempted to sell the LP ticket to the highest bidder.
