Ondo Election: PDP’s Akingbaso Raises Alarm Over Thug Invasion In Idanre

Deputy Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Festus Akingbaso, has raised alarm over alleged invasion by thugs in Idanre Local Government Area during the governorship election on Saturday.

Speaking after casting his vote at Polling Unit 005, Oke Imikan, Akingbaso, who also serves as a member of the House of Representatives, praised the turnout and security at his polling station. However, he expressed grave concerns about reports of electoral disruptions in several villages.

“Voter turnout here is commendable, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has performed satisfactorily so far. I urge voters to remain at polling units after voting to monitor the process until results are announced. If the process is fair, I am confident in my party’s victory,” he stated.

Akingbaso alleged that thugs linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) were active in villages like Ofosun, Omifunfun, Allah, and Igbepo. He accused the thugs of intimidating voters and preventing PDP members from casting their votes.

“In Ofosun, thugs reportedly broke into the house of a PDP member to stop them from participating in the election. Since Friday, there have been reports of APC bringing in thugs to disenfranchise voters. Despite informing the police and the Department of State Services (DSS), no significant action has been taken,” he said.

The PDP deputy governorship candidate called on security agencies to intervene and ensure the election remains peaceful and credible in the affected areas.

This development comes amidst heightened tension in the state, as residents cast their votes in one of the most closely watched gubernatorial elections in recent years.
