Zelenskyy Urges Trump To Embrace Reagan’s ‘Peace Through Strength’ To Counter Russia

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called on U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to adopt a foreign policy stance inspired by former President Ronald Reagan’s “peace through strength” doctrine as a way to deter Russian aggression.

Zelenskyy highlighted Reagan’s legacy, particularly his support for anti-communist movements and bolstering U.S. military capabilities during the Cold War, which became known as the “Reagan Doctrine.”

This approach, focused on negotiating from a position of strength, is something Zelenskyy believes could benefit Ukraine and its allies amid escalating tensions with Russia.

Trump, who was declared president-elect after defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, has expressed a desire to end the war between Ukraine and Russia.

In a video shared on Wednesday, Zelenskyy emphasized the need for a “strong America” and united global alliances to secure peace, advising Trump on how the Reagan-inspired approach could shape his foreign policy.

“For Ukraine and all of Europe, Reagan’s words on ‘peace through strength’ still resonate,” Zelenskyy said. “If this principle guides the 47th President, it will be beneficial for America and the world.”

He added, “Reagan’s legacy is still relevant today. People want freedom, security, and stability. For us, that means a strong America, a strong Ukraine, and resilient allies against Russian aggression.”
