“Painkillers Damaged My Kidneys” – Ufoma McDermott

Nollywood actress Ufoma McDermott recently shared her long journey with kidney disease, which she says stemmed from prolonged painkiller use.

In an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, McDermott opened up about the toll of a 12-year struggle with the illness, urging others to be cautious with their health.

McDermott revealed that her kidney issues were traced back to years of using strong painkillers to cope with migraines, headaches, and eye pain. “I didn’t wear my glasses because they made me look like a geek,” she explained, describing how she instead relied on powerful painkillers.

After her brother was diagnosed with late-stage kidney disease, McDermott became concerned and sought medical advice, fearing a genetic link. Her doctors eventually linked her condition to the long-term use of painkillers.

Reflecting on her health journey, she advised, “I wish everyone would understand the importance of prioritizing health.”
