Devastating Floods Leave Dozens Dead, Thousands Trapped In Valencia, Spain

In Alfafar, Spain, floodwaters left streets strewn with cars and caravans as emergency crews began rescue efforts on Wednesday.

Heavy rains in Valencia triggered flash floods across southeastern Spain, leaving at least 95 dead and trapping more than 2,000, according to emergency officials.

Over 1,000 troops were deployed to assist in the affected regions, including Valencia and Andalucia, which faced intense rainfall Tuesday.

While the rain subsided Wednesday morning, warnings remained for further heavy showers.

Residents recounted harrowing escapes, including Kewin Jacek Ryfa Stelmach, who fled rising waters with his wife while others abandoned vehicles that became immobilized. His brother, Oskar, also fled on foot after his car was trapped, wading waist-deep to safety.

In Valencia’s commercial district, over 650 people awaited rescue inside an IKEA store as floodwaters surrounded the area.
