Ayra Starr Opens Up On Challenges Of Fame, Artistic Journey

Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has revealed the toll that the demanding lifestyle of an artist has taken on her.

Despite her young age, the 21-year-old singer expressed feeling exhausted and “old” compared to others her age.

In a conversation with Rode in Nairobi, Kenya, Ayra shared her hectic schedule and her longing for rest and simplicity.

She mentioned that while she enjoys the creative process, the fast-paced nature of her career can be overwhelming.

“I’ve met people born in the 90s, and they’re so full of energy. Meanwhile, I feel old, even though I was born in 2002,” Ayra said. “I just want to stay home and sleep.”

Reflecting on her artistic journey, she noted that her music helps her discover her path and purpose with each new project.

“The more I make music, the more I recognize what my path is and what I’m trying to do,” she explained.

Recently, the Grammy-nominated singer made history with her first-ever YouTube Live concert, streamed globally from Nairobi.

The event, produced in collaboration with Raha Fest, celebrated the release of her highly anticipated sophomore album, *The Year I Turned 21*.
