Again, National Grid Collapses, 24 Hours After Initial Breakdown

While many Nigerians are yet to recover from the initial collapse yesterday, the national electricity grid collapsed again on Tuesday, plunging millions of people into darkness.

The latest incident comes barely 24 hours after electricity distribution companies across the country announced the grid collapsed around 6:48 p.m, resulting in the loss of power supply across their networks.

The latest failure took place at around 9.48am according to the distribution companies.

“Dear valued customer, kindly be informed that there was a system collapse at 09:17hrs which has resulted to a loss of power supply across our network,” Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) which serves some parts of Lagos State said on its X handle.

“We are currently working with our partners as we hope for a speedy restoration of the grid. We will keep you updated as soon as power is restored. Kindly bear with us.”

On its part, Ikeja Electric said the national grid collapsed at about 9:17 am, affecting power supply within its franchise.

“Please be informed that we experienced another system outage today 15/10/24 @ 09:17hrs affecting supply within our network,” the firm said.

The DisCo said it is collaborating with our critical stakeholders to restore power supply.

The national electricity grid has now collapsed about seven times in 2024. The first time was on February 4.

The grid experienced another shutdown on March 28, April 15, July 6, and August 5 before yesterday’s and today’s breakdowns.
