Hardship: “There Shouldn’t Be Election” – Rotimi Amaechi Fumes Over Nigerians’ Silence

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has expressed frustration over the public’s lack of action despite the worsening economic crisis. 

The former minister during an interview hosted on ABN TV, criticized Nigerians for not being vocal enough about the rising cost of living and the inability to afford basic needs like fuel.

“I’m angry with the citizens. You see people stealing your money, impoverishing you, and you still cannot afford fuel or basic necessities,” Amaechi said.

He questioned the ongoing political campaigns in Edo State, asking if politicians should be campaigning at all given the economic struggles. 

“Should any politician be campaigning in Edo?” he asked. Amaechi urged citizens to take a stand against the political class, calling for nonviolent protests and the refusal to vote in elections until their concerns are addressed.

“People should say, ‘We won’t vote,’” he emphasized. “There shouldn’t be any elections until the needs of the people are prioritized.”

Highlighting the severity of the situation, Amaechi noted that even those in his position are struggling. “If people like us cannot afford diesel, imagine what’s happening to those without our resources.”

With a biting remark on the country’s deteriorating conditions, he added, “Nigerians are now forced to trek, and someone said that walking is good for the heart.”

Though clearly frustrated, Amaechi avoided committing to any political stance, saying, “I’m not interested in politics… I’ll discuss it at the right time.”
