In the wake of American rapper Diddy’s recent arrest on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, his mother, Janice Combs, has publicly defended her son for the first time.
Through a statement issued by her lawyer, Natlie G. Figger, Combs addressed the allegations, stating, “He made mistakes in the past; as we all have, he is not the monster they have painted him to be.”
She expressed sorrow over the way her son is being judged, saying, “It is heartbreaking to see my son judged not for the truth, but for a narrative created out of lies.”

Acknowledging that Diddy may not have been fully honest about certain aspects of his past, including an incident involving an ex-girlfriend caught on hotel surveillance footage, she added, “Sometimes, the truth and a lie become so closely intertwined that it becomes terrifying to admit one part of the story.”
Janice Combs also referenced Diddy’s rocky relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, which has been marred by allegations of abuse—claims the rapper had denied until old footage surfaced showing otherwise.

“This is why I believe my son’s legal team chose to settle the ex-girlfriend’s lawsuit, rather than fight it, which the federal government has now interpreted as an admission of guilt,” she said.
She concluded her statement with a plea for fairness, saying, “It is agonizing to watch the world turn against my son so quickly without ever hearing his side.” Combs also suggested that some of the accusations against him may be financially motivated.
Diddy was arrested on September 17, 2024, at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Manhattan by Homeland Security Investigations. Initially placed on suicide watch, he has since been removed from it and is allowed visits from family members.
