ASUU Threatens Strike As Government Fails To Address Demands

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has issued a stark warning to the Federal Government, threatening to embark on another strike if their demands are not met within two weeks.

ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, announced the ultimatum in a statement on Wednesday, expressing frustration with the government’s continued delays and lack of commitment to resolving outstanding issues.

The union has given the government until October 7, 2024, to address their concerns. 

“We have repeatedly highlighted the urgent need for the government to take concrete steps to address our demands,” Osodeke said. 

“Despite our numerous efforts, there has been a lack of progress. We are left with no choice but to take decisive action.”

ASUU’s demands include improved funding for universities, better conditions for lecturers, and the implementation of a sustainable salary structure.

The union has warned that a strike would have a devastating impact on the nation’s education system and students’ academic progress.
