The Federal Character Commission, has stated the reason why Adolphus Wabara, the former president of the Senate, was not given a job placement since the request did not fall under its purview.
In response to Wabara’s allegations that the FCC turned down requests for employment placements for residents in his district, this statement has been made.
Wabara said that he was unable to get the individuals in his wards work, and he disclosed that he surmised that this was because he had not “dropped any money.”
“You won’t believe that nothing has been done up to this point because I haven’t dropped any money and they can’t even ask me to drop money,” he said.
Reacting in a statement by its Director of Public Affairs and Communication, Dr Chuks Okoli, the FCC emphasised that Wabara was informed during a visit to FCC Executive Chairman, Dr Muheeba Dankaka, in March 2023 that the commission was not functioning as a recruitment agency.
The statement added that the role of the commission was to monitor recruitment processes in various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to ensure fairness and equity.
The FCC also challenged Wabara to prove his claims, urging the public to disregard his claims of a “bribe for FCC job slot,” stating that the Executive Chairman had maintained a strict adherence to the principles of Federal Character in the recruitment since taking office.
“For this weighty allegation, it will be appreciated if his Excellency, the former Senate President can mention the name(s) of the person(s) that asked him to pay a bribe to enable him to secure FCC job slots for his children and grandchildren or substantiate his allegation.
“The general public is hereby asked and encouraged to disregard this unsubstantiated allegation of ‘bribe for FCC Job slot’ made by former distinguished Senator Adolphus Wabara. The Executive Chairman, since her assumption of office, has been very strict in the application of Federal Character principle in staff recruitment by the MDAs.”
