Vice President Shettima Departs For UN General Assembly In New York

Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for New York, where he will represent Nigeria at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President’s trip was made at the request of President Bola Tinubu. 

The President has tasked Shettima with leading the Nigerian delegation to the global forum while he addresses critical domestic issues, including the recent flood disaster.

During the assembly, Vice President Shettima is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement, participate in significant meetings on the sidelines, and hold bilateral discussions with other global leaders.

The high-level General Debate, themed ‘Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations,’ will take place from September 24 to September 28, 2024.
