Obasanjo Urges Biden To Reconsider Cuba’s Terror Designation

Olusegun Obasanjo has appealed to U.S. President Joe Biden to reconsider Cuba’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism, citing humanitarian concerns and the island nation’s historical contributions to global struggles.

In a letter dated September 3, Obasanjo expressed concerns about the impact of the designation on ordinary Cuban citizens and highlighted Cuba’s significant role in supporting Africa’s fight against colonialism and apartheid.

“I know and appreciate the contributions Cuba made to the final liquidation of colonialism and apartheid in Africa,” Obasanjo wrote, emphasizing his longstanding relationship with Cuba.

Obasanjo argued that maintaining Cuba’s current designation harms millions of innocent citizens and urged President Biden to reconsider the decision, taking into account the broader consequences.

The appeal comes amidst ongoing debates over U.S.-Cuba relations, which have been fraught with tension for decades due to political differences and the U.S. embargo.
