Gokada Founder’s Murderer Sentenced: Tyrese Haspil To Spend 40 Years to Life in Prison

Fahim Saleh, a young Nigerian entrepreneur, and founded of Gokada, a ride-sharing company headquarterer in Nigeria was murdered in July 2020.

However after several years of investigation into the cause of his death, the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has disclosed in a press release on Tuesday, Sept. 10, that Tyrese Haspil, 25, was sentenced to 40 years to life in state prison for the murder of 33-year-old Fahim Saleh.

According to the district attorney’s office findings, Haspil had embezzled millions of dollars from Gokada. Saleh had discovered the theft and was threatening to expose Haspil.

“Haspil resigned in May 2019, knowing Mr. Saleh would learn about the embezzlement, yet continued to steal money [and] increasing the amounts,” prosecutors said. According to the district attorney’s office, Haspil paid Saleh back with stolen money through the PayPal scheme, but the theft continued, escalating to about $400,000.

In an attempt to silence Saleh, Haspil allegedly plotted to kill him on at least three occasions before finally carrying out the murder.

The murder of Saleh is a tragic reminder of the dangers of corruption and the importance of holding those who commit crimes accountable.
