Iran, Mexico Call For Immediate Ceasefire In Gaza

Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Araghchi and Mexican Foreign Minister Alicia Barcena have voiced their countries’ support for a ceasefire in Gaza.

During a phone call, both ministers emphasized the importance of continuing bilateral political talks and consultations, according to a statement from the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Barcena expressed Mexico’s support for a truce in Gaza, emphasizing the urgent need to end the violence and bloodshed in the Palestinian coastal enclave.

Araghchi condemned what he described as ongoing Israeli “crimes” against Palestinians and underscored the need for an immediate halt to such actions. He also stated that Iran would support any ceasefire agreement endorsed by the Palestinian people and resistance groups.

This exchange comes in the context of Israel’s large-scale military offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, launched in retaliation for a Hamas attack across the southern Israeli border on October 7, 2023. The Palestinian death toll from the ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza has reached 41,020, according to Gaza-based health authorities on Tuesday.
