“Peter Obi Not Arrested”, Media Adviser Clarifies

The media adviser to Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Val Obienyem, has refuted rumors that the former governor of Anambra State was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) at his home in Anambra State.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Obienyem called the reports false and baseless.

Obienyem noted that the rumor first emerged on Saturday but was quickly denied. Despite this, the false information continued to circulate. He clarified that Mr. Obi was not even in Anambra State at the time of the supposed incident.

“As of Saturday, Mr. Obi was in Rwanda for important engagements. He has since returned to Nigeria and is currently in Edo State, actively participating in party and national matters,” Obienyem stated.

“There was no DSS operation at his residence, and no arrest was made.”

The statement also dismissed claims that Mr. Obi’s wife had been arrested, labeling them as fabrications intended to mislead the public and create unnecessary panic among his supporters.

Obienyem urged the public to disregard these falsehoods and to be cautious about misinformation.

He assured that any official communication regarding Mr. Obi would be shared through the proper channels.

He emphasized that Mr. Obi remains focused on his commitment to the nation, while his team is dedicated to providing accurate updates on his activities.
