Just In: Bauchi Gov. Bala Mohammed Dissolves LG Affairs

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has dissolved the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs following the Supreme Court’s ruling that grants greater autonomy to local governments across Nigeria.

Governor Mohammed announced the decision during a swearing-in ceremony for three new commissioners on Monday.

He explained, “We have decided to eliminate the position of Commissioner for Local Government to streamline our governance structure, reduce costs, and align with the Supreme Court’s recent judgment on local government autonomy.”

He added, “From now on, there will be no commissioner specifically for local government.”

This decision follows the Supreme Court’s judgment, which rendered the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs redundant.

The former commissioner for the ministry, Ahmed Aliyu Jalam, tragically passed away in a road accident four months ago, and two other commissioners resigned to run in the local government elections held in August.

The new commissioners appointed are Sani Mohammed Dambam, who will oversee the Ministry of Health; Zainab Babatakko, who will lead the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development; and Engr. Mohammed Abdulk, who will head the Ministry of Commerce.
