Obaseki’s Wife Breaks Silence on Childlessness, Responds Oshiomhole’ Comment

Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, the First Lady of Edo State, has opened up about her struggles with fertility, revealing that she has experienced multiple miscarriages, stillbirths, and the loss of babies in the womb.

Speaking during a Zoom meeting with Edo women living abroad, Mrs. Obaseki shared her journey as she offered support and comfort to those facing similar challenges. Her comments came in response to a viral video where Senator Adams Oshiomhole made insensitive remarks about her childless situation.

In her heartfelt address to over 200 women from around the world, Mrs. Obaseki urged them to view themselves as vessels of potential and future abundance, emphasizing that their worth is not defined by their current circumstances but by their enduring strength and faith.

She reassured them that everyone has been created with a divine purpose that extends beyond the immediate and the visible.

Obaseki said: “My words of comfort to you, like myself, who have conceived and experienced miscarriages, painful stillbirths, and evacuations of babies, who died in our wombs and as a result, have no children to show for the pain we have endured.

“You are not barren. I dare to call you fruitful

“You and I are potential and proud mothers of children that will come in God’s time. Enjoy the life God has given you.

“Take your mind off your challenge, and before you know it, children will start coming.

”Obaseki further underscored the notion that her own contributions to society have far exceeded the narrow confines of biological motherhood.

“Being fruitful is not limited to childbearing. It is about impacting lives and creating positive change in society. There is no point in feeling bad. Women can fulfill God’s purpose in many ways beyond motherhood,” she added.

Mrs. Betsy Obaseki also offered words of encouragement to women who, like her, have endured the pain of miscarriages and stillbirths. She urged them not to let their grief overwhelm them or let their losses define their identity.

Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo, the wife of the PDP gubernatorial candidate, also attended the meeting and expressed her appreciation for the women’s involvement. She promised to continue supporting all of Betsy Obaseki’s initiatives for women and girls in Edo if her husband were elected.

In her opening remarks, Mrs. Adesuwa Obasohan, the founder of the group, voiced her support for Asue Ighodalo’s candidacy, drawing a parallel to the group’s previous backing of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
