Olympic Athlete Rebecca Cheptegei Dies After Boy Friend Set Her Alight

Ugandan Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei tragically lost her life in Kenya on Thursday, four days after a horrific attack by her boyfriend.

The incident has sparked outrage and renewed calls for action against gender-based violence in the region.

According to authorities, Cheptegei’s partner, Dickson Ndiema Marangach, doused her with petrol and set her alight at her home in Endebess, western Kenya, on Sunday.

The attack occurred just weeks after Cheptegei, 33, competed in the marathon at the Paris Olympics.

Cheptegei suffered severe burns and was rushed to the hospital, but her condition deteriorated rapidly. She passed away on Thursday morning, surrounded by loved ones.
