NANS Threatens Nationwide Shutdown Over Fuel Price Hike, Kyari’s Removal

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a stern warning to the federal government, threatening a nationwide shutdown on September 15, 2024, in protest of the recent fuel price increase and the perceived incompetence of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Director General, Mele Kyari.

In a statement released on Wednesday, NANS President Okunomo Henry Adewumi said the student body is demanding an immediate reversal of the fuel price hike and the removal of Kyari from his position. NANS accused Kyari of mismanagement and failure to address the nation’s fuel challenges effectively.

“We can no longer stand idly by while our future is mortgaged by the actions of a few,” Adewumi said. “The incessant increase in fuel prices has brought untold hardship to the masses.”

The planned shutdown is expected to disrupt normal activities in major cities nationwide. NANS has assured that the protest will be peaceful and lawful.
