DELSU Don Calls On Gov Oborevwori To Reconstruct Some Federal Roads

Comrade Paul Bebenimibo, a human rights activist and Lecturer in the Delta State University has urged the Delta State Gov­ernor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborev­wori, to start the reconstruction of some major federal roads in the state including a 70-
kilometer Sapele- Eku-Abraka-Obiaruku-Abavo-Agbor road which has become impassable.

The request was contained in an open letter addressed to Governor Oborevwori, where Beben­imibo emphasized the sorry state of the road which constitues a hin­drance to the state’s economic activities, especially agri­culture and education.
He stressed that although it’s a federal road, it is indigenes and residents of Delta State that bear the brunt.

“The unpalatable condition of the road is a major contributor to the high cost of agricultural products in the state and other parts of Nigeria,” Bebenimibo wrote. He also noted that the road’s poor state has exacerbat­ed transportation costs and
in­security in Delta State, adding that staff and students of Delta State University, Abraka, and the University of Agbor are among those severely impacted.” He said, arguing that the assertion that it’s a federal road is not tenable any longer as the
governor has constructed fly­overs on federal roads in Warri and Effurun.

The activist called on Governor Oborevwori to borrow a leaf from such governors as Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, who had reconstructed federal infrastructures in their states.

“I respectfully remind you that former governor of Rivers State, Chief Nyensom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, constructed 12 flyovers on federal roads in Rivers State to ease traffic.” Bebenimibo stat­ed, calling on Governor
Obor­evwori to follow suit.

Bebenimibo is a member of The ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the state, he calls on the governor to enhance his acceptability among the people by reconstructing the road as he looks forward to the 2027 gubernatorial election.
