The Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy (FMACCE) has presented a comprehensive roadmap aimed at creating at least two million jobs within Nigeria’s creative sector. The roadmap was unveiled at the Diplomatic and International Development Partners Forum, held at the UN House in Abuja.
Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, emphasized the immense potential of Nigeria’s creative industry and the ministry’s commitment to unlocking its full potential. The roadmap outlines a strategic plan to foster growth, innovation, and sustainability across the various sectors within the creative economy.
The initiative aligns with the ministry’s previous announcement of plans to generate two million jobs in the creative industry by 2027. Musawa had highlighted the ministry’s collaboration with the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) and other partners to secure funding and enhance capacity within the sector. This partnership is expected to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2030.

During the presentation, Musawa highlighted the diverse nature of Nigeria’s creative economy, encompassing arts, culture, and other related sectors. She emphasized the importance of preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage while fostering strong partnerships to drive growth and innovation within the creative industries.
The roadmap focuses on skill development, policy reform, and the preservation of cultural heritage. It aims to position Nigeria as Africa’s creative capital and stimulate economic growth through the creative sector. The minister called upon artists, stakeholders, diplomatic partners, and policymakers to join forces in this transformative endeavor.
UNESCO, represented by Abdourahamane Diallo, Head of Office and Country Representative in Nigeria, expressed its support for the ministry’s initiatives. Diallo noted that the roadmap aligns with UNESCO’s 2005 Convention for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.

Nigeria’s creative industry has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years, driven primarily by the music and film industries. The country’s large young population and multicultural setting have provided a fertile ground for creativity to flourish. Nigerian music artists have achieved global recognition, while the Nigerian film industry (Nollywood) has become the second most productive in the world.
The roadmap presented by the FMACCE offers a promising path for further growth and development of Nigeria’s creative sector. By creating jobs and stimulating economic growth, the initiative aims to contribute significantly to the nation’s overall development.
