In a brazen attack on the first day of the Ukrainian school year, Russia launched a barrage of missiles targeting Kyiv.
The assault came just hours before thousands of children were set to return to their classrooms.

Alina, a university student, described the terrifying moments when the air raid sirens sounded and she and her classmates rushed to the bomb shelter. “We were very scared,” she said, recalling the explosions and the subsequent fire.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the Russian attack, emphasizing the importance of education amidst the ongoing war.
“All our schools, all higher education institutions that are working today are proof of the resilience of our people and the strength of Ukraine,” he stated.
The assault on Kyiv highlighted the ongoing threat posed by Russia and the determination of Ukrainians to continue their lives and education despite the challenges.
