Nationwide Demonstrations Grip Israel Following Hamas Hostage Deaths

Mass protests have erupted across Israel after the recovery of six hostages’ bodies from Hamas captivity in Gaza.

The demonstrations, which drew tens of thousands of people, demand a deal to rescue the remaining hostages taken during the October 7 attacks.

A major labor union, Histadrut, has called for a nationwide general strike on Monday, shutting down Tel Aviv’s airport and urging the government to negotiate a hostage release.

Protesters gathered outside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office in Jerusalem, chanting slogans and holding signs blaming him for the crisis. Similar protests took place in Tel Aviv, where opposition leader Yair Lapid joined the crowds.

Families of the hostages have been pushing for a nationwide strike to pressure the government into a ceasefire agreement with Hamas.

The Hostages Families Forum accused the government of delaying a deal, leading to the deaths of the six captives.

Prime Minister Netanyahu pledged to secure a deal that releases the remaining captives while protecting national security.

However, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich condemned the general strike, claiming it serves Hamas’ interests. In contrast, Tel Aviv’s Mayor Ron Huldai supported the strike, allowing municipal workers to join in solidarity with the hostages’ families.”
