…Akwa Ibom is peaceful says COAS

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State wants an additional Army battalion along the Oron of the state, this is to checkmate the frequent security challenges along the coastal areas of the state, The Governor made the demand when he played host to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, who was on a courtesy call The Government House, Uyo, on Monday this week on his arrival for the combined 2nd and 3rd quarters edition of the 2024 Chief of Army Staff Conference holding in the State from August 26, 2024 to August 30, 2024.

The governor commended the Army hierarchy for the reflection of Federal Character in the top positions of the Nigerian Army while welcoming the entourage to his office and also commended them for their efforts at preserving our well cherished democracy by securing lives and properties of the citizenry, hoping that normalcy will soon be restored in troubled spots nationwide.
Governor Eno in particular applauded the synergy between the Army formations in the State and other security agencies, seeing it is a significant boost to the security of the state, he assured them of the State Government’s willingness to support the establishment of the new military base.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. T. Lagbaja in his speech said that the courtesy call on the Governor was traditional, and is to register the presence of the Nigerian Army in the host state for the week-long conference, he commended the peaceful and hospitable milieu of Akwa Ibom State which according to him contributed to the choice of the state for the conference.
Gen. Lagbaja however said that the conference is usually hosted in Abuja and when hosted elsewhere it is always in troubled spots to instill force.

He said that the case in Akwa Ibom was different as they needed a peaceful and convivial environment to relax and discuss serious national security concerns.
The COAS expressed the appreciation of the Nigerian Army to the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State for their support in infrastructure and logistic to the 2 Brigade headquarters in the State, while appreciating the warm reception of his team to the State, he restated the commitment of the Army in ensuring security and safety of citizens.
