Rivers State Confirms Two Mpox Cases Amidst Cholera Decline

In a concerning development, the Rivers State Government has confirmed two cases of Mpox infection, even as the state continues to combat the spread of cholera.

Health Commissioner Dr. Adaeze Oreh made the announcement during a press conference in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

 She emphasized that the state’s Public Health Emergency Operations Centre had been activated to address any potential outbreaks.

“While Nigeria has recorded 39 confirmed Mpox cases nationwide, Rivers State has unfortunately seen two of these infections,” Dr. Oreh stated.

“We have deployed medical teams to all healthcare facilities to ensure swift and effective responses.”

The state government has implemented a comprehensive incident plan for Mpox, including mobilizing resources to identify and contain all cases.

Additionally, the Ministry of Health has trained ad hoc staff to monitor and manage the infection at all levels of the healthcare system.
