Just In: Appeal Court Upholds Philip Shaibu As Edo State Deputy Governor

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed an appeal by the Edo State House of Assembly, affirming Comrade Philip Shaibu as the rightful Deputy Governor of Edo State.

This decision reinforces the earlier ruling by the Federal High Court in Abuja, which nullified Shaibu’s impeachment and ordered his immediate reinstatement.

The court warned that any individual claiming to be the Deputy Governor aside from Shaibu would face legal repercussions.

This development follows the Edo State House of Assembly’s impeachment of Shaibu on April 8, citing allegations of perjury and leaking government secrets.

However, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court had ruled that the impeachment process violated due process and ordered Shaibu’s reinstatement.

The court also invalidated the appointment of Omobayo Godwins as the new Deputy Governor, replacing Shaibu.

Additionally, the Inspector General of Police was directed to provide Shaibu with necessary security to enable him to resume office and perform his duties as Deputy Governor until the end of his tenure.”
