Mother, Five Children Die After Eating ‘Danwake’ In Kano

Danwake is a Hausa delicacy that six villagers of Karkari village in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State consumed and later perished from.

The event happened on Thursday at the home of the late Malam Abdulkarin.

This publication was informed by a neighbor of the Garba Muhammad family that the widow, who was responsible for providing for her five children, had to cook with outdated cassava flour because of hunger and financial difficulties.

“Eating the food led to the death of the six members of the family, including the mother.”

Those who lost their lives include Alhakatu Abdulkarim and her five children; Bashir, Firdausi, Hafsat, Usman and Jamilu.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relation Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said six members of the family who ate part of the food were rushed to Gwarzo General Hospital where they were confirmed dead by doctors.
