Former middleweight kingpin Israel Adesanya has declared that defeating Dricus du Plessis at UFC 305 holds greater personal significance than regaining his championship belt.

The Nigerian-born fighter, returning to the Octagon after a nearly year-long hiatus, faces the South African on August 17 in Perth, Australia, in a highly anticipated grudge match.

“This isn’t just about the title,” Adesanya emphasized during the UFC 305 Countdown show. “Beating Dricus is more important to me. It’s about making history and proving a point.”

The animosity between Adesanya and du Plessis has been simmering for some time, fueled by a heated rivalry over who is the rightful “true” African champion. This added layer of tension has elevated the upcoming clash to a personal battleground.
