British Airways Suspends Flights to Beijing

British Airways (BA) has announced the temporary suspension of its London to Beijing flight route.

The airline disclosed that it will cease operations on this route from the end of October this year and will not resume until at least November 2025.

Despite this, BA will continue to offer flights to Shanghai and Hong Kong.

The decision comes amid declining passenger numbers and the ongoing complications caused by Russia’s closure of its airspace to UK flights. This has resulted in longer journey times for several routes.

Recall that in 2016 BA terminated its flights to Chengdu, China, in 2016 due to same commercial reasons.

However, a spokesperson for the airline confirmed the news, stating that affected passengers will be offered alternative travel options or full refunds.

 “We will be pausing our route to Beijing from 26 October 2024, and we’re contacting any affected customers with rebooking options or to offer them a full refund.

“We continue to operate daily flights to Shanghai and Hong Kong.”
