Renowned Nigerian politician and entrepreneur, Ifeanyi Ubah, has passed away at the age of 52. According to family sources, Mr. Ubah suffered a cardiac arrest, leading to a sudden slump, and subsequently passed away in a London hotel on Saturday.
Family members, including his wife, have been plunged into mourning following the news of his demise. Mr. Ubah was a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and business, having served as the CEO of Capital Oil, a downstream oil marketer, for several years.
In 2014, he contested for the governorship of Anambra State under the Labour Party but was unsuccessful. He later joined the Young Progressive Party (YPP) and won a Senate seat in both 2019 and 2023. In 2023, Mr. Ubah defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing the need for the South-East region to align with the central government.
Until his death, Mr. Ubah was a serving member of the Nigerian Senate, leaving behind a legacy in both politics and business. His sudden passing has sent shockwaves across the nation, with many mourning the loss of a stalwart politician and entrepreneur.
Meanwhile,President Bola Tinubu extends his condolences to the family of the late Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah.
In a statement by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, the president said the deceased was a renowned businessman and politician.

“He was the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District at the National Assembly.
“President Tinubu commiserates with the friends and colleagues of the late Senator, the National Assembly, and the government and people of Anambra State over this sad loss.
“The president prays for the repose of the soul of the departed lawmaker, as well as for strength and comfort to his family,” he said.
Also Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, and former senators Ben Murray-Bruce and Shehu Sani have expressed their condolences following the death of Ifeanyi Ubah.
Mr Obi, who hails from the same state as the late senator, took to X on Saturday to mourn Mr Ubah’s passing.
He wrote: “I was deeply shocked this morning to learn of the death of my dear younger brother and Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Ifeanyi Ubah. We were together on July 12 at the burial of Chief Pius Onwuzo in Nnewi, Anambra State. May God Almighty, who has called him home, forgive his sins and grant him eternal rest. May He also grant his family, Anambra South Senatorial District, Anambra State, Nigeria, and all of us the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss. May God Almighty continue to protect and bless his family.”
Messrs Ben Murray-Bruce and Shehu Sani also issued statements mourning Mr. Ubah.
Mr Bruce wrote, “With a heavy heart, I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. His contributions to our nation, both in the oil sector and public service, will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in peace, and may his family find strength during this difficult time.”
Mr Sani wrote, “I received the sad news of the demise of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, representing Anambra South. The nation has lost a great politician, an accomplished businessman, and an outstanding promoter of football. May his soul rest in peace. Ameen.”
