Edo Government Backs Omobayo As Deputy Governor

Despite court ruling on Wednesday, Edo State Government stand firm, insisting that Omobayo Marvellous Godwin still holds the position of the state’s Deputy Governor.

The State’s Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, made this known in a statement in Benin on Wednesday.

Recall that the Matrixngr.com reported earlier today, Wednesday 17, 2024 that months after being impeached by the state legislature, Philip Shaibu was restored to his position as deputy governor of Edo State by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

However, Nehikhare, in his statement disclosed that the State has filed a stay of execution of the Federal High Court judgement.

“Pending the hearing of the appeal of the judgement, the incumbent Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Omobayo Marvellous Godwins remains and continues to serve as the valid Deputy Governor of Edo State,” Nehikhare said.

“He will continue to serve in this capacity and will be recognised as such.”
