BREAKING: After 12 years, Court discharges, acquits ex-Lagos Speaker, Ikuforiji of money laundering

Adeyemi Ikuforiji, the former speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, was cleared and released by a Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday on allegations of N338.8 million in money laundering.

Ikuforiji and Oyebode Atoyebi, his previous personal assistant, were let go. According to Justice Liman, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission was unable to provide sufficient evidence to establish the defendants’ guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The defendants were first arraigned on March 1, 2012, before Justice Okechukwu Okeke on 20 counts bordering on misappropriation and money laundering
