Kano Emirship Tussle: Why Suit Was Stalled

• Court Orders Substituted Service On Dethroned Emirs

The failure of Kano State Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel to serve court processes on the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado-Bayero and four others stalled hearing in the Kano emirship tussle instituted by the Kano State Government at the state high court, The Matrix has gathered.

When the case came up for hearing, counsel for the Inspector-General of Police, Abdulsalam Saleh, told the court that all attempts made to serve the first to the 5th respondents failed.

“My lord, we filed an affidavit of service. We have done our best to ensure service was made on all the five emirates but could not get to them.

“There was an order from the Federal High Court restraining the police from arresting, intimidating or harassing the respondents that was why we could not serve them,” Saleh said.

Consequently, the presiding judge, Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu then adjourned further hearing on the case till June 24, while ordering that court notices be served on the dethroned emirs of Kano, Karaye, Rano, Bichi and Gaya through substituted means.

The lawsuit was filed by the Attorney General of Kano State, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, the Kano House of Assembly, and the Kano state government. The government enacted a law dissolving the four new emirates and dethroning Ado Bayero as the Emir of Kano.
