Drama  As Obi Disowns Abure’s Attempt to Lead Obidient Movement

Abure, who was suspended last week, claimed to have developed an app for registering Obidient Movement members as part of the Labour Party and appointed Marcel Ngogbehei to head the directorate.

However, Obi clarified on his verified X platform that the Obidient Movement is not affiliated with any political party and does not recognize any directorate or leadership apart from himself.

Obi stated, “I want to categorically declare that the Obidient Movement is not a directorate of any political party. Anyone claiming to be a leader of this non-existent directorate is not part of the broader Obidient Movement.”

This development comes after 261 Obidient support groups rejected the directorate, accusing Abure of attempting to hijack the grassroots-driven movement. The groups, including the Obidient Conveners Collective, Peter Obi Support Network (POSN), and Like Minds for Peter Obi (LMPO), condemned the creation of the directorate and Ngogbehei’s appointment without consulting Peter Obi or the core movement. They viewed this move as an insult and a ploy orchestrated by forces within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to undermine Peter Obi’s popularity and the Obidient Movement’s momentum.

The groups declared, “We categorically reject the creation of an Obidient Directorate within the Labour Party and the appointment of Marcel Ngogbehei to any position of authority within the movement. The Obidient Movement recognizes no leader other than Peter Obi.”
