Tinubu Rings Changes At SEC, NAICOM

  •   Appoints New DG, Commissioner For Insurance, Chairpersons, Boards For Both Agencies

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, made sweeping changes into two critical agencies, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM).

The president appointed a new DG and Chairman for SEC and a new Commissioner for Insurance and Chairperson for NAICOM.

Mr. Mairiga Aliyu Katuka was appointed as the Chairman of SEC while Mr. Emomotimi Agama was unveiled as the Director-General of the commission of the main regulatory institution of the Nigerian capital market which is supervised by the Federal Ministry of Finance.

Ajuri Ngelale, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, made these changes known in a statement on Friday.

According to the statement, other professionals appointed to the Board of SEC are Frana Chukwuogor, Executive Commissioner (Legal and Enforcement), Mr. Bola Ajomale, Executive Commissioner (Operations), Mrs. Samiya Hassan Usman, Executive Commissioner (Corporate Services), Mr. Lekan Belo, Non-Executive Commissioner and Mr. Kasimu Garba Kurfi, Non-Executive Commissioner.

“The President anticipates that all members of the Board of this critical commission will bring to bear their wealth of experience and competence in advancing the commission’s core mandate of developing and regulating a capital market that is dynamic, fair, transparent, and efficient, to bolster investor confidence and contribute immeasurably to the nation’s economic development,” the statement added.

For NAICOM, Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin was appointed as Commissioner for Insurance while Ms. Halima Kyari was also approved as the Chairperson of the commission.

Other professionals appointed to the board of NAICOM are Mr. Olawoye Gam-Ikon, Deputy Commissioner (Technical Operations), and Dr. Usman Ankara Jimada, Deputy Commissioner (Finance & Administration).

Other members are Dr. Miriam Kene Kachikwu, Mr. Adeniyi Olusegun Fabikun and Mr. Umar Khalifa Mohammed.

According to the statement, “The President expects the new Board of the National Insurance Commission to exercise utmost probity as it leads the commission in ensuring a safe, sound, and stable insurance sector, while protecting policyholders, the public interest, and improving trust and confidence in the sector.”
