Alleged N80.2b Fraud: EFCC Declares Yahaya Bello Wanted

In a twist of event, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello wanted for an alleged financial crime to the tune of N80.2 billion.

It would be recalled that the EFCC moved to arrest and prosecute Bello for the money laundering and theft case during his time as governor of the state.

Bello served as the governor of the North Central state from January 27, 2016 to January 27, 2024, when he handed over to his fellow party man in the All-Progressives Congress (APC), Usman Ododo.

Attempt to arrest him yesterday was thwarted when the current governor Ododo whisked him away to an unknown destination.

Reacting to this, Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency called on those with vital information about the former Kogi governor’s whereabouts to reach the commission or the police.

“Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is wanted by the EFCC for offences relating to economic and financial crimes to the tune of N80.2 Billion,” the EFCC said in a Thursday evening post on its Facebook page it captioned “Ex-Gov Yahaya Bello Wanted By the EFCC”.

“Anybody with information as to his whereabouts should report immediately to the Commission or the nearest police Station.”
