I Am Not Leaving Labour Party Soon, Peter Obi Fires Back At NLC

Amid the internal crisis rocking the Labour Party (LP), the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his commitment to the party, dismissing rumors of an imminent departure.

The Matrix reports that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) the owner of the Labour Party had disclosed that Obi is free to leave the party if he wants to.

This statement was made by NLC spokesman Benson Upah on Sunday.

Upah clarified that the decision of whether Obi should stay or leave the party is up to him, stating that he is free to determine his political destiny.

He, however, described the former Anambra governor as an asset, stating that the NLC would not obstruct him if he chose to leave the party.

“The right of choice is available to Mr Obi. If he chooses to leave the party, that is his preference.

“We can’t sit in judgment over him on that. But if he chooses to remain, of course, Peter Obi is an asset any day. I rest my case on that,” Upah concluded.

Reacting to the internal crisis rocking the opposition party, the former Anambra governor said, “The leadership crisis in the LP presently is not an abnormal thing, it is an in-house problem and it will be solved amicably as a family.

“I have never thought of leaving the LP, I only advocated for peace because I am a man who believes in peace, I am a man who believes in unity, I am a man who believes that we are the same.

“I don’t see any difference between you and me; by the grace of God I always want to do the right thing.

“That is the reason I came here personally, I would have asked someone to represent me, no, I didn’t.”
