President Bola Tinubu, in his capacity as a resident, has directed the Federal Government to provide a food intervention to address the shortage of food in the country.

This directive was announced by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, following a meeting of the Presidential Committee on Emergency Food Intervention, which was convened by Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, at the State House.

During the meeting, Mr. Idris emphasized the government’s concern for the hardships faced by Nigerians and assured that steps are being taken to provide relief. The meeting was attended by key figures including the Minister of Agriculture, Abubakar Kyari, Minister of State for Agriculture, Mustapha Shehuri, Minister of Budget and Planning, Atiku Bagudu, National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Yemi Cardoso, among others.

This meeting follows recent protests in various parts of the country, particularly in Niger and Kano states, over the escalating cost of living and food. These demonstrations have spurred urgent calls for action to mitigate the soaring prices of essential food items.
