Kaduna Residents In Court For Allegedly Stealing Property Worth N360,000

In a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, two men, Usman Garba and Yusuf Abubakar, were charged with breaking into a man’s residence with the intent of stealing property and cash valued at $360,000.

The two residents of Ali Akilu Road Kaduna, Garba, 25, and Abubakar, 28, are accused of both stealing and criminal conspiracy on two counts.

The defendants committed the offenses on January 6 in Ungwan Sarki Kaduna, according to the prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, who testified in court.

Leo claims that the defendants planned, along with two other people who are still at large, to take N100,000 in cash as well as jewelry, clothing, shoes, and a generator that belonged to Haruna Mohammed and were valued at N360,000.

The defendants and their accomplices used a sharp object to gain entrance into the house while the complainant had gone to work.

“The defendants and his accomplices were caught by the complainant’s neighbour who saw them coming out with the stolen items belonging to the complainant.

” She raised an alarm and the people in the compound came out and apprehended the defendants while the other two escaped,” he added.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened sections 322 and 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, admitted them to bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

Emmanuel ordered that the sureties must be residents of Kaduna State, gainfully employed and must be able to furnish the court with their means of livelihood.

He also stated that the sureties must show evidence of a two year tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.

The magistrate adjourned the case until Feb. 8, for hearing.
