Bye-Election: Ani, Laguda Emerge APC Candidates To Fill Umahi, Gbajabiamila Senate Seats

The All Progressive Congress (APC) has declared Anthony Okorie Ani as its candidate for the National Assembly’s Ebonyi South Senatorial District byelection in February.

At the primary, which took place on Saturday, January 6, in the Afikpo Local Government Area, he received 281 votes out of the 285 total polled.

Ani was the only candidate for the primary election.

The seat became vacant following the appointment of Senator David Umahi as the Minister of Works by President Bola Tinubu.

In a same vein, All Progressives Congress (APC) nominee Fuad Kayode-Laguda, a financial specialist and public servant, has won the nomination for the next House of Representatives by-election in Surulere Federal Constituency 1.

Following his triumph in the party’s primary poll, which was held on Saturday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, his candidacy was officially announced.

The goal of the by-election, which is set for February 3, 2024, is to replace Femi Gbajabiamila, the outgoing Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Gbajabiamila, who previously represented the constituency, was appointed as the Chief of Staff by President Bola Tinubu, necessitating the need for the by-election.

Laguda scored 30 votes to beat the other three contestants such as Raheed Owokoniran, Lawal Kabir, and Manzu Jemila, who scored nil.
