In an effort to mitigate the consequences of flooding in Bayelsa State, the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has distributed palliatives to flood-prone communities spanning the eight local government areas of the state.
During the handover ceremony in Yenagoa, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director of NDDC, emphasized that the distribution of relief materials is the Commission’s proactive response to the challenges faced by the people, aiming to alleviate the effects of recurring flooding in numerous communities across the state.
Represented by Dr. Week Doodei, the NDDC Director of Procurement, and Engr. Godknows Alamieyeseigha, the Director of the Bayelsa State office, Dr. Ogbuku clarified that the palliatives were entrusted to community representatives to address their specific issues.
Dr. Ogbuku reiterated NDDC’s dedication to addressing challenges in the Niger Delta region, stating, “We share in the pains of the victims of the flooding in Bayelsa State. We assure you that the NDDC has very good programs for the people of the Niger Delta region, and as many people as possible will benefit from the distribution of the palliatives.”
He urged community representatives to judiciously distribute the materials, including food, household items, farm inputs, canoes, fishing nets, hooks, and more, emphasizing the importance of reaching those affected by the floods.

Highlighting the broader scope of NDDC’s role beyond physical infrastructure, Dr. Ogbuku emphasized the Commission’s commitment to monitoring the distribution to ensure it reaches the affected areas, extending the intervention to all NDDC mandate states.
The Managing Director appealed to community leaders to prevent hoarding and diversion, emphasizing that such actions would not be tolerated. After inspecting the relief materials, NDDC representatives directed community leaders to ensure their proper distribution to various local government areas and communities, providing support to those in need after facing significant losses due to flooding.
