Illegal Possession of Firearms: DSS Raid Palace of Asagba , Arrests Elunor, 7 Others.

Officers of The Directorate of State Services (DSS) in Asaba, Delta State, ransacked the palace of the Asagba of Awai and arrested High Chief, Obi Nduka Elunor and seven others over alleged illegal possession of firearms while an undisclosed number of their cohorts escaped.
A gun and some other illegal items were discovered at the palace in an operation that lasts several hours.
It is alleged that the arrests was as a result of a petition by some members of the community who accused the palace of land grabbing at Ugwu- Nwosu near Asaba while some people attributed it to issues he had with The Management of Dennis Osadebe University.
It was learnt that Elunor had, in the past, evicted some suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who allegedly used the land as a hideout.
Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State, Churchill Oyewe, told Newsmen that he was not allowed to take the suspect on bail, when he met DSS officials on Friday evening, as they claimed the matter was still being investigated.
Meanwhile a senior DSS official, who doesn’t want his name in the press has confirmed the incident, adding that Elunor will either be released on bail or the case would be handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
