Advantage of Air Peace Direct Flight To Algeria

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to create direct flights between the governments of Nigeria and Algeria is scheduled to be signed. On Wednesday, November 8, 2023, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Festus Keyamo revealed this.

In a few months, the deal should come into force, enabling travel between Algeria, Lagos, Abuja, and Oran, according to Keyamo.

He went on to say that Algeria has contacted Nigeria in recent weeks to request the reopening of the Algeria-Lagos route.

According to Punch, the government has mandated reciprocity for Nigerian airlines, hence permitting them flights to Algeria.

Algerian Ambassador to Nigeria, Hocine Latli, opined that the agreement is a “symbiotic relationship” that will benefit both countries. He said: “You can’t have a tied partnership if you do not have a direct flight between the two countries, we are trying to solve this problem of direct flight and restart the dynamic partnership and cooperation between the two countries, especially in the next few months.

“So, it is important today that we have reached a common point that the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace has accepted the opening of direct flight from Algeria to Nigeria.”

According to BusinessDay, establishing direct flights between Nigeria and Algeria is a big step in enhancing economic and tourist connections between the two nations.

Citing economic realities, local airline operators like as Air Peace and Dana Air have modified their ticket pricing, as reported by Legit.ng. The airline operators laid the blame on the naira exchange rate, which is now at N1,200/$, and the growing cost of aviation fuel, which currently sells for N1,000 per liter, according to the Guardian story. Domestic airlines have raised fares on main routes by more than 100% to reflect the changes.
