Rema Floors Burna Boy At Big At MTV Europe Music Awards

Divine Ikubor, Nigerian singer fondly called Rema,  has floored another Nigerian musical big shot to emerge as the winner of the inaugural “Best Afrobeats” category at the MTV Europe Music Awards.

THE MATRIX recall that the organizers of the awards had cancelled the event due to the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine terrorists, Hamas.

But that didn’t stop them from announcing the winners today, November 6, 2023. According to reports, the category Rema won was newly introduced by the organizers, with nominees including Asake, Ayra Starr, Burna Boy, Davido, French superstar Aya Nakamura, and Rema.

Rema was adjudged the “Best Afrobeats” winner, while Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz won the ‘Best African Act’ category.

However, Rema and Selena Gomez’s ‘Calm Down’ lost the “Best Collaboration” category to Jung Kook and Latto’s ‘Seven’.

Painfully, Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Burna Boy, lost three awards, including “Best Afrobeats”, “Best African Act’, and “Best Live Performer.”

This came barely two weeks after Burna Boy lost all seven nominations at the 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards.

American singer, Taylor Swift led the winners chart with three awards at the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards – Best Video, Best Artist and Best Live.
