Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has postponed the hearing of a lawsuit aiming to disqualify Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri and his deputy, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, from the upcoming state election in November. The case, brought forth by Blessing Clement Azibanagbal, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State, is registered as FHC/ABJ/CS/1448/23.

Azibanagbal’s lawsuit requests that the court instruct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to eliminate Diri and Ewhrudjakpo as the PDP’s candidates for the forthcoming election in Bayelsa. Furthermore, she seeks a permanent injunction to prevent INEC, its agents, or any associates from continuing to publicize the names of these two individuals as PDP candidates for the election.

In addition to these requests, Azibanagbal also asks the court to declare that Ewhrudjakpo is not eligible to run as the deputy governor under the PDP, among other relief measures.

Governor Diri, Deputy Governor Ewhrudjakpo, the PDP, and INEC have been named as respondents in this lawsuit.

The plaintiff’s legal representative, Ifeanyi Nwosu, subsequently submitted an application to deliver the notice to Governor Diri and Deputy Governor Ewhrudjakpo through courier service.

The judge granted  the. prayer and adjourned the case for November 30th.
