Rivers Crisis: Court rules to preserve status quo on Fubara’s impeachment.

An interim injunction prohibiting the Rivers State House of Assembly and Speaker Martins Amaewhule from taking any further action on the impeachment of Governor Siminalayi Fubara has been issued by a Rivers State High Court located in the Isiokpo Division of the Ikwerre Local Government Area.

The Chief Judge of the State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, the Deputy Speaker, and the Clerk of the House are also in a constrained state.

The governor filed a lawsuit, and Justice Ben Whyte, the presiding judge, issued the order in response.

Judge Whyte ordered the parties to stay in the same situation while the Motion on Notice was being decided.

The judge adjourned the suit to 14 November, 2023, for hearing of the motion on notice.
