I was influenced by Olamide, singer Mayorkun

Mayorkun, the well-known Nigerian artist Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, has disclosed that renowned rapper and singer Olamide served as an inspiration.

The “Cheche” singer recently shared a video of himself freestyling on Snapchat, claiming Olamide was an inspiration for his songwriting.

The former DMW signee acknowledged the YBNL boss’s impact on his handwriting, but added that Baddo taught him that outstanding songwriting isn’t always in English.

“Na Baddo [Olamide] make me know say pen game no be by English o!” he wrote as the video’s caption.

According to reports: “Mayorkun came into the spotlight in 2016 after he released a cover of Davido’s ‘The Money’ single which featured Olamide and was discovered by the singer on X (formerly Twitter).

“Davido signed him to his record label, DMW where he released his debut single, ‘Eleko’ and became an instant star.

“Two years later, he won the highly coveted Next Rated category at The Headies which solidified his stardom.

In 2021, Mayorkun parted ways with Davido Music Worldwide, DMW.”
