Doom Beckons Except Nigeria Cuts Waste in Govt- Gov Obaseki

The Executive Governor of Edo State Godwin Obaseki warns that there is too much waste in governance in the country especially at the Federal level and this may spell doom in a no distant future.
While enumerating the benefits of his administration’s e- governance policy he called for it’s implementation in all strata to save cost and enhance transparency.
Speaking at the 29th Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja as a panelist on ‘Reinventing Government: Digitalisation of Public Institutions’ he said
“We need to reinvent governance. You can’t reinvent government unless you digitalise and open up your systems. We have no option. We have to be efficient.

“We have to be efficient to support production, especially at the federal government level. The waste is too much, and unless we change, we will be in trouble. In fact, we are already in trouble, and if we don’t change, we will be in deeper trouble.” Sharing his experience in Edo State , he said that digitalisation of government needs political will and commitment of leaders as the civil servants will resist it.
According to Governor Obaseki it is difficult to convince civil servants to key into some noble policies of the government but he had to put his foot down in his state.
He said that the story has changed in Edo State since his introduction of e- governance .
It could be recalled that for the past seven years, Governor Obaseki has instituted reforms that has digitalized work processes in the civil service that is more efficient and transparent.
